Friends of the Wharf Update

Despite the underwhelming nature of the summer we had, attendances at the wharf have been at a record high. One day I counted ten cars parked below the “official carpark” area which, by the way, has had a bit of a tart-up and looks much better. The wide range of people fishing – from young children and their parents to hard-out groups of young men and their alcohol – have all seemed to mix and mingle and share the space pretty well. No incidents have come to my attention anyway.
As usual, catches have been patchy with many undersized snapper – hopefully being returned to the water – and the occasional good specimen to brag about. One such catch being a snapper measuring over 550mm just a week or two ago! I’ve seen the photographic evidence and it must be up there with the biggest local catches in living memory. A day or two later, a kingfish was taking bait and keeping a couple of regulars on their toes.
The glorious Easter weather brought out the usual fisherfolk, boaties, and dog walkers, along with the inevitable sightseers. Who’s been telling them about our little bit of paradise? The midday spring tides made for picture perfect days down there. Now the days are getting shorter and cooler, there will be more opportunities to enjoy the wharf on your own.
